Do you know the way to San Jose?

Baycon coming up this weekend! I'm really looking forward to it, it's always a fantastic con every year. Vixy and I are doing a combined concert set on Saturday at 7:00 PM, followed by our good friends the Bohnhoffs at 8, be there or be square. Our friends Steve Savitzky and Callie Hills are performing on Friday night in the same time slots, not to be missed. And don't forget Brocelïande on Sunday at 9, their live performances are always captivating and amazing.

Since my last update, I went to two really great housefilks in the Pacific Northwest area. There was Bethany Allen's house filk in Redmond, followed by Kirsti McElligott's house filk in Portland, both were just wonderful.

For those who are interested in filking in the Pacific Northwest, please join the mailing list for Emerald Forest Filk. We use the list to organize and announce filk-related events in the area. Join up and say "hi", we'd love to hear from you.

I'm starting to think more seriously about what I'm going to do for my Interfilk guest slot at OVFF this October. I'd like to make it something special. Andrea reminds me that Interfilk is about cross-pollinating the music, so I would like to start learning covers of a few West-coast songs that perhaps don't get heard much out there in Ohio. I'd be happy to take suggestions. I've already decided I want to hit Steve up for the chords to "World Inside the Crystal", and I'm trying to decide which of the Gold's tunes I'd like to bring with me. Unless, of course, Steve or the Golds are planning on being at OVFF this year, in which case, I should let them play their own songs. ;-) Any other suggestions?

Pose the question on the filk list? :)

Several of the people out here are on that list. :)

It was a pleasure to have you. Hoping I can be there at OVFF!

Yes, I was planning on opening it up for discussion on the mailing list, too. Hey, are you going to be at Baycon? I don't remember if you said you were going or not.

Nope. Dead broke. Wish I could. Went once, but I didn't know any of you then!

Even if I was planning to be at OVFF (and there's an off-chance that I will be, if I have CDs to sell), I still like to hear other peoples' takes on my songs.

You'll find the chords in this PDF; everything else including the occasional sound file reachable from the index.

While you're at OVFF, be sure to hit up Gary McGath for his version of "Vampire Megabyte", with horror-movie organ accompaniment.

Darn, you'll miss a great con by just one week! :-)

Fantastic, thanks! Looking forward to seeing you this weekend.

Our plane will be touching down half way through your concert set, though, so we won't be at the concert, sorry! I'm worried we're not going to be able to get to hotel in time for Callie's concert, either. :-(

Hopefully it will be videotaped. And in any case it will be recorded. See you late Friday or sometime Saturday!

For my interfilk slot at Consonance several years ago, I did a few Mouldin' Oldies by well-known Southern filkers but also learned a few by those who were not well-known outside the region. Then I did the reverse when I did a TM gig at Gafilk, showcasing a song by Jordan Mann ("Solitaire") and one or two others from folks who were not (yet) well-known outside the west.

I'd strongly encourage you to learn a song of Savitzky's and the Golds but also think of the filkers in the northwest who only go to regional cons and who have at least one or two songs you really wish others could hear. Then you could learn those.

Agreed.

[following trail of breadcrumbs from various other parts of cyberspace]

At the risk of committing Shameless Self-Promotion[tm], I'll point you at my lyric page (not at all complete), which you're welcome to raid for useful material; we've crossed paths at an OryCon or three, and hopefully one or two of those will sound familiar. If -- he said, even more optimistically -- you happen to recall something not on the lyrics page, that's cool too, and I can port those lyrics easily enough....

Thanks, John!

Perhaps we should cover an Ash Productions tune. :)

Hey, now there's a great thought. Let's discuss that.
