Wayward recovery

Well, it just doesn't get any better than that. What a night. Everyone was awesome, the energy was fantastic, and wow, we sold so many CD's! Thanks once again to Broenwynn for letting us play at her place.

The idea of an autograph queue is not new to me. I've stood in a few myself. But there's just something mind blowing about seeing one and realizing, "oh, that's for us?..." Just... wow.

Thanks everyone for coming, and for being part of a great night. See you all again soon! We've got plans in the works for local venues in both June and July. We'll let you know as soon as they firm up.

So, for those who just got the album... was it worth the wait? :-)

[identity profile] k-crow.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell yes, it was worth the wait! =)

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, I barely hit the submit button on that post, when *bing* up comes my email notification. I was half expecting it to say "F1R5T P0ST!!!!1111!1!!". :-)

And... Good, I'm glad it was worth the wait. We kept telling everyone it was coming, and we were working on it, but I think people weren't believing us any more after a while. :-)

[identity profile] solcita.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You and Vixy have made a wonderful album! Thank you for letting me be a small part of that. :)

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much. You are actually a BIG part of that. Your violin parts on Mal and Persephone are absolutely critical to those songs, and bring those songs to a whole new level.

Who's with me here?

[identity profile] technoshaman.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
(listening to it for the first time off the album as I type)

Absolutely on "Mal's Song." Joss' original track had the fiddle, and it really brings it closer to Vixy's vision of "a chorus looking for verses".... (and there it's definitely a fiddle, even if it's just the difference in style :)

(Y'all are gonna send one to Joss, right? :)

The violin definitely adds to the pathos of "Persephone"...

Yaknow, it's a good concert when your hair stands up. It's a *great* album when it does that....

[identity profile] technoshaman.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Same thing goes for AJA's work on "Apprentice"... wooo...

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't that just awesome? The story behind that will probably told in the "Behind the music" pages when we get around to finishing them, but some of it is over here at alexanderfans.

[identity profile] technoshaman.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
And every time I hear [livejournal.com profile] trystel touch a keyboard, I go "oooh".... I deliberately saved "Emerald Green" for last :)

whoa. Nice stereo effect, too. That's *your* doing... :)

p.s. uploaded data to CDDB (surprised no one else had yet!)...

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I uploaded the data to CDDB before it we went out the door for FKO. It's just that it takes forever for them to process it after you do.

[identity profile] tenderstone.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Worth the wait? In the words of Drusilla: "Do it again! Do it again!"

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone seems to be asking about "the next album" already, in much the same way that you would ask a mother of a newborn about when she's going to have the next baby. Man, we haven't even cut the umbilical cord on this one yet! :-)

But there's just something mind blowing about seeing one and realizing, "oh, that's for us?..." Just... wow.

Yeah, your mind was pretty well blown by the time I got to you... :)

It's funny, looking back, I remember the first Sereniversity concert, sitting on the front row and watching Vixy getting the Keanu Moment when the Browncoats blew "Mal's Song" back at her at 120db... But she'd already done the Album Thing, and you hadn't... last night, Vixy was just revelling in all of it, comfortable as a salmon in the Sound, and while onstage you were having a blast, after was the "whoa" moment for you...

It's a *ton* of fun to watch.... and be a part of.

[identity profile] vixyish.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
comfortable as a salmon in the Sound

*snerk* Is *that* how I looked?

Apparently I'm a better actress than I thought. ;)
ext_3294: Tux (Default)

[identity profile] technoshaman.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
You had me totally fooled... it looked from my vantage point like you were having a total blast.

[identity profile] vixyish.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I should clarify. I *WAS* having a total blast. :D

But I can't claim to be *used* to things like autograph queues, or consider them normal. They still make me all giddy and squirmy and "omg, why do you want *MY* autograph, I'm not anybody!" and all that.

I spend a lot of time after these gigs worrying about whether I was nice to everyone and paid enough attention and said the right things. I have a horror of anyone feeling snubbed, or of forgetting a name or calling someone by the wrong name, or anything like that. Mostly I just ask Tony over and over and he assures me that I did okay.

...but yeah, that's not to say that it isn't still a total blast. :)

[identity profile] technoshaman.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Vix, this is you. The one that *chose* to be a mild-mannered office mouse (by day!), that a year ago was all fangirl over Maya Bohnhoff yourself... if you ever gave anybody the cold shoulder I'd have to pick my teeth up off the floor.

The rest we can blame on the endorphins. :) :) :)

And now, to sleep, perchance to dream... of a double-band version of "Persephone" with AJA doing the violin and [livejournal.com profile] stealthcello on cello...

[identity profile] scifantasy.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, definitely worth the wait. *grin*

[identity profile] spaced.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
was it worth the wait?

Hells yes!

[identity profile] kat-merle.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The concert was wonderful. I was moved to tears by the harmonies in at least 3 songs and there were more that gave me chills and shivers. The CD is just as good. You guys have managed to capture the magic of your concerts and put it onto something portable. Simply delightful.

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you SO much. For me, the CD is more about giving the songs all the lushness and ornamentation they deserve, rather than trying to capture our live sound. The exception is Red Right Hand, where we really went to extra trouble to make it sound exactly like we do it live. We even recorded it with both of us at the same time instead of overdubbing separately.

[identity profile] kat-merle.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That is pretty cool. Its fun hanging out with all you musicians and sound guys and learning how the recording process works. When you do your behind the music notes you may want to put info on how you did the mixing and such for all the behind the scenes geeks. I know I love it.

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Good idea. We'll keep that in mind.

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'm adding a feature to our web site that puts up random blurb quotes about our albums and performances. Mind if we quote some of the things you said in livejournal? (And if yes, what name should I use for you? I don't remember your real name as related to your livejournal handle.)

[identity profile] kat-merle.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind at all. You can either just use the LJ handle of Kat_Merle or simply Kat I go by both in this community since I'm much more social online than in person.

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so very much! Adding to the web site now.

[identity profile] smoooom.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Worth the wait? I'll say so. Especially since Wayne (my Husband) couldn't make the con. He gets to hear you guys as well.

[personal profile] sheistheweather 2008-04-20 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It was indeed worth the wait.

Also, I located the music shop you told me about, so I will check it out.

I generally don't go into fanboy mode with filk, but I thought it was a really strong first album. In fact, because it's not yet purchasable via Internet (and I'm overseas for at least 3 months more), it's the first CD I've ever asked a friend to send MP3s in the interim (on account of the MySpace tracks), and one of only 2 or 3 CDs I've plugged in our Eagle Bytes (http://www.filk.biz/contact.html) newsletter.

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the plug! Hopefully CDBaby will get the online sales up soon. You should theoretically also be able to get it through many direct-digital download services, including iTunes, really soon.

[identity profile] egoldberg.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. I will order it whenever it's available, through whatever means gives you guys the most money.

(Personally I have always preferred to run my own Paypal-based online store - even while also selling through CD Baby - because it gives you fuller control over your customers' user experience. So there's no dealing with "shit why can't my customers orders my new CD?", and little nuances are easy such as "buy the CD and you'll get a digital download & bonus material immediately so you don't have to wait". But that's personal taste: I guess I hate giving another company 25% of revenue just to toss a disc in the mail, when that money could be used to make more CDs.)

[identity profile] damiana-swan.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
We listened to it on the way back home last night. :-) At one point, [livejournal.com profile] satyrblade grabbed the jewel case and pulled out the insert, then said in rather awestruck tones "he did all the guitar parts himself!" (They're VERY good. You should bring your electric for live performances too!)

You've both done an amazing job. Congratulations, and keep up the good work!

I'm looking forward with a very evil grin on my face to (hopefully) seeing the two of you opening for Sooj ... and seeing jaws dropping and eyes lighting up all across the audience.

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
We're sure hoping to work something out with Sooj! She's completely made of win, and I think our fan bases could have a lot of crossover. :-)

[identity profile] geojlc.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Love the CD! And I enjoyed the couple songs I got to hear last night. I totally wished I could have stayed for the whole concert... :-) We even played a couple of the songs to friends at the gathering I went to after I left the concert. They liked it too!

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! Thanks for playing our tracks and spreading the love!

[identity profile] ladyaraia.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely wonderful concert! Thank you both for what you do. And the CD was definitely worth the wait. The electric on Six-String Love seriously makes me go weak at the knees. ;) And all of it is incredible. Looking forward to getting to see more of you guys come summer!

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, then I guess you and Vixy have something in common then? :-)

[identity profile] ladyaraia.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes there is that... ;)

And agreed on the above comment on the harmonies on the CD. There are some incredible ones.

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's funny, I wanted more harmonies on the CD but we kinda ran out of time. Vixy and I went back and forth about harmony on certain songs. Vix sometimes can't evision harmony on her own songs, while having no trouble adding harmony to someone else's song. Luckily we've got friends who do great harmony and were able to add their distinctiveness to our own...

[identity profile] ladyaraia.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I really enjoyed the Seanan backing vocals I picked out. But did I hear some Vixy on Vixy vocals there too?

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Let's see. If it was Seanan, you were probably listening to "Thirteen". I think all backing vocals on that song were Seanan and Maya.

[identity profile] vixyish.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
You'd have heard vixy-on-vixy vocals in what I refer to as the Heavenly Choir of Rock in the bridge of "Six-String Love". :)
ext_3294: Tux (Default)

[identity profile] technoshaman.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
the *sigh* at 2:54 there, coming out of the bridge.... *grin*

[identity profile] ladyaraia.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, good description! I really enjoy that song from start to finish. Your vocals just make me happy and I so need that today! Thank you for what you do, pretty girl!

[identity profile] fugazi2112.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for putting on yet another great concert! It's always fun to hear not only your own works, but pulling out great gems like Queen's '39 was a treat!

The CD is also fantastic, and was definitely worth the wait.

Have you considered sending a copy to 103.7 The Mountain, for their new "King of the Mountain" local artist spotlight? (http://1037themountain.com/pages/1975428.php) Starting last night, they began featuring local artists at 9:15 pm Monday-Friday.

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I love doing that song. My friends The Bohnhoffs are fond of it as well. They were the ones who pointed out its relativistic/astronavigational origins to me in the first place.

We'll look into that thing at the Mountain. Thanks for the heads-up!

[identity profile] dornbeast.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
So, for those who just got the album... was it worth the wait? :-)

Wait? What wait?

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I dunno... Maybe the three years we've been saying we're working on it? Or the seven years since Vixy's prior album? :-)

[identity profile] dornbeast.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that. Quality takes time. And if I remember correctly, there are "in planning" recordings which were announced before Shadowbeast and aren't out yet.

"Ed Gruberman, you must learn patience."
"Yeah, yeah, patience! How long will that take?"
