The online store is now open for business!

Our new album, Thirteen, is now available for purchase online!

And there was much rejoicing.

I'm going to be tweaking the music page a bit over the next couple of days, including having little "play" buttons next to each song. So bear with me as I make the edits.

In the meantime, though... Go buy our album! It's awesome!

Chime in here if you're having trouble with the play buttons

I'm working on the Music page right now, and I'd like some usage data.

If you're having issues with the little "Play" buttons at our music page, please reply to this comment sub-thread right here, and include the following information:

- Play buttons work for you? Yes/No
- Browser and Operating System:
- Latest updates of browser and OS installed? Yes/No (Give versions if No)
- Detailed version number of Adobe Flash Player Plugin:
- If buttons do not work, very brief description of behavior:

Here, I'll start it off by doing a reply of my own so you can see what I mean...

- Play buttons work for you? No
- Browser and Operating System: Firefox on Windows Vista
- Latest updates of browser and OS installed? Yes
- Detailed version number of Adobe Flash Player Plugin: 9,0,124,0
- If buttons do not work, very brief description of behavior: Button looks like it will work, but when I click on it, it gives a little spinny icon as though it is trying to download something, but it never successfully downloads and no music ever plays.

Interestingly, I have different results on different machines:

- Play buttons work for you? Yes
- Browser and Operating System: IE 7 on Windows Vista
- Latest updates of browser and OS installed? Yes
- Detailed version number of Adobe Flash Player Plugin: 9,0,124,0

- Play buttons work for you? Yes
- Browser and Operating System: Safari and Firefox on Mac OS X
- Latest updates of browser and OS installed? Yes
- Detailed version number of Adobe Flash Player Plugin: 9,0,115,0

- Play buttons work for you? Yes
- Browser and Operating System: Firefox on Windows XP
- Latest updates of browser and OS installed? Yes
- Detailed version number of Adobe Flash Player Plugin: 9,0,28,0

Hm, I'm not having issues, and I have old stuff, so I thought you might like my yeses for contrast:

Play buttons work for you? Yes
- Browser and Operating System: IE 6 on Windows XP
- Latest updates of browser and OS installed? Nope
- Detailed version number of Adobe Flash Player Plugin: 9,0,124,0

Plus mostly I just wanted to say "EEEEEE!!!! THE CD'S ARE READY!!!" *buys one for her own birthday and one for a friend's also-April birthday*

Thanks, that's a good data point. Do you happen to have Firefox to try the version-124 Flash on it? I'm suspecting that this is due to a recent version of Flash 9 combined with Firefox problem.

And yay! Friends getting albums! Much love.

From my work machine:

Play buttons work for you? Yes
- Browser and Operating System: IE 7 on Windows XP
- Latest updates of browser and OS installed? Yup
- Detailed version number of Adobe Flash Player Plugin: 9,0,124,0

Play buttons work for you? No
- Browser and Operating System: Firefox on Windows XP
- Latest updates of browser and OS installed? Yup
- Detailed version number of Adobe Flash Player Plugin: 9,0,124,0

Or, in short, I think your diagnosis of the firefox-flash combination is likely to be right.

(CD's are shipped! YAY YAY YAY!)

Yup. It looks like 115 and 124 (the two most recent builds) are both broken in this respect, and the prior build (47) is fine.

Here's something else you can help me validate if you have time: Do you get a similar behavior (works in IE but not Firefox with 124) with the play buttons at http://www.jonathancoulton.com/store/downloads ?

Actually, on the same machine, same builds, etc., the play buttons at that URL work fine on both browsers...

I'm in Firefox, running on XP Pro (Service Pack 2). As far as I know, I have the latest updates for both.

I have no idea how to find the Adobe Flash player plugin version number.

The play button does the little "ants dancing in a circle" animation, but no sound comes up.

And http://www.jonathancoulton.com/ worked fine on this exact setup last week. Right now, it's not being very cooperative.

Internet Explorer seems to have no problem.

You find the Adobe Flash Player version number by right-clicking on the applet and selecting "About..."

But I already know you're at version 9.0.124.0 based on the behavior you're describing.

Odd that Maribou has no trouble with Coulton's page yet I had exactly the same problem.

Or maybe it's that I had the problem *after* trying my page, and somehow the bad behavior of one has screwed up the other? I dunno!

[identity profile] dornbeast.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure whether one can affect the other, but Coulton's page works fine now...

(mmm...Code Monkey)

...and so does the Thirteen page. How odd.

And I have 9.0.115.0 installed, which you have as a known issue.

Interesting. Maybe 115 and 124 have slightly different failure modes.

I just ordered your CD and can't wait to listen to it! I've been checking with CD Baby every day since you mentioned that you sent it to them, and of course it gets listed the day I can't get to the computer until after work.

Do you and Vixy have any plans to attend Orycon this year? I love all the great filkers at that con, but my family and I always look forward to you both especially.

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, absolutely, we attend Orycon every year unless something particularly unusual comes up. Local cons like Orycon and Norwescon are a highlight for us, because they don't require dealing with airports or taking days off work for travel. For example, this year it was only the Ultimate Nonstop Coughing Death Cold From Hell that kept us out of Norwescon, and we were very sorry to have missed it.

In one sense, Orycon was the birth of Vixy & Tony, as that's where we first met and heard each other's music.

I admit, though, I am puzzled about how you can check CDBaby and/or LiveJournal to discover the album has been released, yet can't actually place an order until you "get to a computer". Surely you see my confusion...
:-)

Sorry, I meant that, before today, I was checking CD Baby early and often for Thirteen. Today, however, I couldn't get online until tonight when I checked your LJ. Small difference, I know, but I've been looking forward to this album for quite a number of months. :D

And I'm thrilled to hear about Orycon and Norwescon. Next year, I'm planning on attending Norwescon for the first time and am really looking forward to the great filking.

Vixy and Tony - just received Thirteen and both my wife and I found our jaws absolutely on the floor. Amazingly wonderful quality.
The mix is exceptional, the songs and performances are a wonder.

Thank you both for sharing your gifts with the world.

Hope to see you at OVFF.

A Dorsai endorsement! :-)

But seriously, thanks so very much! We worked very hard getting the mix and the quality level up to our exacting standards. In the end, I feel like I could have gone for another month of fine tuning, but sometimes a good old deadline is what it takes to get you focused and get the product out the door. I'm quite pleased and proud of the end result, and it's wonderful to know it's being appreciated.

Definitely intend to be at OVFF this year. Thanks again!

Make that a double DI endorsement - Marnie is also DI. :-)

Nice work!!

Hey, I'm adding a feature to our web site that puts up random blurb quotes about our albums and performances. Mind if we quote some of the things you said in livejournal?

Blurbs

[identity profile] mgucciard.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be honored sir!

On a semi-related note, I've now ordered my second copy. :-)

A dear friend, and one of the most amazingly talented singer songwriters I've ever had the pleasure to get to know, Kat Eggleston (www.kateggleston.com),is moving to Seattle early next month.

I was so excited about the album I gave her my copy, and pointed to you folks as "good people" and "skilled, exciting performers" who are going to be (at least vaguely) in her new neighborhood.

With any luck, I've now gotten her interested in you folks. :-)

I'll also be posting an album review to a DI (closed) mail list, in the next week or so, and can copy you on it if you like.

Thanks so much! I'm going to check out Kat's music right now. Tell her to look us up when she gets into town.

Query

[identity profile] mgucciard.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
While I'm thinking about it - any chance of a "behind the music" on the songs? I find I'm wondering what prompted some of them / how they came about - blame Seanan, what she did for her last album totally spoiled me. :-)

We're planning on doing precisely that. We need to get into gear on that task.
