The Marian Call show at Wayward last night was fantastic. She played typewriter on a couple of songs. She gave me her super-awesome pro camera and had me take a bunch of pictures, I hope she posts the photos soon, I'd love to see how they came out. I was kind of proud of a couple of them. She's very wonderful to talk to in person, and her friends and family that came along were just fantastic people. Her husband was running merch, and he's a really great guy. The guitarist that was playing with her was quite good, and reminded me a lot of myself in his playing style. The gentleman who came up to play harmonica just brought down the house.
The songs were fantastic, I was particularly fond of the song about Vera. Much like our own song Apprentice, where Vixy invented a backstory about Inara, this song hypothesized that the name "Vera" comes from stories Jayne's mom used to tell him about a heroic woman. Vixy and I hope to cover it soon.
I was slightly disappointed that I was only able to buy one of her albums in person. The other album is a specific record-deal kind of thing with Quantum Mechanix, and the physical CDs are only being sold by them, so I had to order that one online today. However, at upcoming gigs, she's going to have the ability to sell the digital versions of that album directly, so that'll be good.
Thanks to everyone who braved the cold and ice to come out to Wayward last night. Let's hope that everyone is safe and warm and continues to have electricity during tonight's Snowpocalypse/Blowpocalypse. Susan and I have tickets to a Burlesque parody of The Nutcracker tonight, and we hope we can make it in there and back again safely. Edit: We stayed home!
