Oy Vey, Freaking Filkers!

OVFF is upon us! I will be arriving Thursday afternoon, and there are all kinds of great things afoot...

First and foremost, I'm very excited about doing my Interfilk guest concert, currently scheduled for Saturday afternoon. I'm also a bit nervous, because it will likely be the largest crowd I've played for to date. I'll be doing a handful of my parodies, a few favorite covers, and at least one song that Vixy and I co-wrote.

Secondly, I'm looking forward to the workshops that Vixy and I are giving. If the schedule holds, we'll be doing those workshops back-to-back, immediately following my concert on Saturday afternoon. My workshop will be about reverse-engineering songs: How to take a song off the CD, and figure out how to play it properly. If you have a song you've been wanting to learn, bring a CD or MP3 of the song to the workshop, maybe we'll use it as the example. Vixy's workshop will be about performer's tricks: Things you can do to help you improve as a singer and a performer.

I'm also looking forward to seeing all the wonderful people there at OVFF, especially our good friends Paul Kwinn and Seanan McGuire. Paul is the Toastmaster this year, and Seanan is, well, Seanan.

But right now, I think my favorite thing is this. Vixy and I are in the process of recording her second album, and although the album probably won't be finished for quite a while, we've got several songs polished enough to put on a CD. We're only making one copy available, and it's not for sale. It's being donated to Interfilk. If you want this, you have to come to OVFF, come to the Interfilk auction on Saturday night, and bid your precious little heart out.

As you can see from the photo, in addition to the CD, we'll be including lyric sheets with full chord charts. The CD itself sounds really fantastic, with three nearly-complete songs, two quite-listenable scratch tracks, and an instrumental version of one of the songs, in case you wanted to sing along karaoke-style. Click here to read the complete liner notes if you want to know exactly what's on the disc. And if you're really interested in hearing it before you bid, poke me or Vixy at some point during the con, and maybe we'll have time to arrange a preview listening for you.

Oho, do you have a copy of this mythical proto-schedule? I am, er, curious when my concert is. (Need more information to get properly nervous, see. :) )

Email Mary Bertke and see if she's allowed to give it to you. I got it in a private email so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to redistribute the thing.

Currently it's got you on Saturday at 13:00-13:30, right after Paul Kwinn's Toastmaster concert at Noon. Then a few oneshots, then me.

You're exactly opposite Mary Crowell's Music Theory Tricks workshop, so that's going to be a really tough one for me. Love ya, Brooke, but I might have to go with Mary this time... I've seen you perform a few times already, but I really need more eduction about music theory!

Sweet, thanks! I've been having paranoid dreams where it was scheduled on Sunday after I leave for the airport, heh.

but I might have to go with Mary this time...

Heh, duh. :) Plus thanks to the miracle of time travel, you can hear an eerily similar concert at Orycon a few weeks later, where I'm scheduled to play immediately before your set.
