I'm Royalty Now

Wow, what a crazy, busy, interesting few weeks it's been. Right now I've got Rozalind back here at Monkey Brains Studios, and she's making another super fast album here. I'm stealing a few minutes on the computer to update the web site. We've got so much to do over the next few days that I'm not sure I'd have the time to update the site before the holidays, so I'm forcing myself to get this update out really quick. This time, Roz is spending a lot of time working on tracks alone while I'm at work during the day. She got a crash course in using the editing software, and is really getting the hang of things fast.

The first main update I'd like to give everyone is that it's looking increasingly unlikely that Vixy and I will be able to make it to GaFilk this year. This is a crushing disappointment for us both. We keep talking about how much we wish we could go and see everyone we love so much, such as the wonderful ladies of Urban Tapestry. Last year, GaFilk was an absolutely wonderful convention, full of fantastic music, great people, and happy memories. I want to stress, to all of the people at GaFilk this year, that we really desperately wish we could be there. The problem mostly comes down to the lack of small green pieces of paper right now. Turns out that a plane ticket to Georgia requires rather large stacks of small green pieces of paper, and we're fresh out of those. Very frustrating! Debbie: take lots of pictures (I know you will).

The next update is that I'm expecting my first honest to goodness royalty check in the mail some time soon. The audio soundtrack CD for the documentary DVD Done the Impossible is on sale, and Vixy and I each have a song on it. (Actually, it's the same song, Mal's Song. Mine is an instrumental version, hers is a concert performance of the song with Fishy playing the guitar.) The documentary's proceeds are going to Joss Whedon's favorite charity, but the audio CD can pay royalties. Wow. I don't know how much the check is going to be, but maybe I'll just frame it instead of cashing it.

And speaking of Mal's Song, work on Vixy's second album proceeds apace. A couple of weekends ago, I went up to Snohomish to Luis Garcia's house again, where we worked on drum arrangements for more songs. This was only part of the weekend's goals, though, and the main accomplishment was getting a perfect drum track recorded for Seanan McGuire's song Evil Laugh. Soon, Seanan will be coming up here to Seattle to record the vocals, and other folks will be recording the rest of the parts. This promises to be really fun. Everyone involved: I'll get the rough mix of the song to you just as soon as I have two microseconds to rub together and can sit down and actually edit and mix the thing!

Oh, and to follow up from my last post, the gig at the Wayward Coffee House was fantastic. The place was packed, and everyone was having a wonderful time, us included. So many people were there, we were so impressed and so grateful to everyone. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did. Thanks everyone! They want to have us back there in a couple months, so watch this space for announcements.

See you all after the holidays!

Pity you guys can't go to GAFilk ...
While we won't be able to be there, either, there's Franklin and Yooh from Germany, and the fabulous incredible IF guests "Summer and Fall" who should get the widest exposure possible - they are amazing ...
Ok, I stop now ... I don't mean to be cruel ..

*cries*

I have been hearing from all quarters how absolutely fantastic Summer and Fall are. It's killing me not to go!

I keep saying "well... maybe I could put it on my credit cards anyway..." and pulling up plane fare sites just to see.

*sigh*

You know, after re-reading my post, I realized that there could possibly be a miracle to come out of all of this. The paragraph describing the royalty check, and the paragraph describing GaFilk are right next to each other.

If the royalty check turns out to be fragging huge, then who knows what it might go towards? :-)

I'm not holding out much hope, though. The album can't possibly be THAT popular. Can it?

Well, I'll be holding out hope to see you both...if not at GaFilk then at FKO? Maybe? :)

FKO is among the things we want very much to do this year, along with Consonance. Seeing as how we'll be guests at FKO the *following* year, I don't want to miss it this year.

No GaFilk? Alas! I guess I'll have to carry the Coulton torch, then. I'll be sending you an e-mail about some chords...

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Certainly. I'll send you what I've got, just as soon as I can get the time to actually be back on my own computer for my own stuff. Right now, my computer is 100 percent devoted to finishing Roz's EP.

Update: The royalty check came. It's a decent enough chunk of cash so that I can't just frame it, but it's small enough so that it doesn't make a difference regarding GaFilk tickets. Ah well.
