The Skinny

ConFlikt 1 was unfuckingbelievable.

Not a lot of time to talk about it right now. But it was amazing. Some favorite highlights: Standing O for Ash Productions. Meeting and listening to Sooj. In the beginning there was dust dust DUST! Mark Osier's hilarious Seattle Worldcon Bid song. The concom's own song about ConFlikt. Membership of over 150. A hotel that is perfect for a filk con, up to and including good food at the hotel restaurant. And oh yeah... driving back to work on Monday morning, 15 minutes from the con hotel. Finally I get to have a con in my back yard for once.

We have witnessed the birth of something great.

The complete list of upcoming Vixy and Tony appearances is:

Consonance, Weekend of March 7th, 2008, Milpitas, CA.
Norwescon, Weekend of March 21st, 2008, Seattle, WA.
FilKONtario, Weekend of April 4th, 2008, Toronto. We are the Guests of Honor!

I'm glad it went so well, and I'm delighted you finally got to hear and meet [livejournal.com profile] s00j!

Oh good! I'm glad you and Sooj managed to meet up; I had planned to send her your and Vixy's contact info when she was here and mentioned that she and K were going to be heading out there, but somehow it got lost in the general lack of round tuits. (As in, "I'll do that eventually, I just need to get a-round-to-it.")

You wouldn't believe how many people have told me "you just HAVE to meet s00j!" and when we finally met (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] ladymondegreen) she said "you wouldn't believe how many people have told me 'you just HAVE to meet vixy!'" Heh.

I'm pretty sure she's my newest fangirl crush... :)

We will eat the yellow as we must must must!

When we eat the sun, will it taste like mouse?

We swear by the dust we will soon find out!

I didn't want to say anything at the con, but I've got this feeling. About you and Mcgregor.

Oh hey, there goes Christopher. Walkin' by.

Jeff and I heard you and Vixie sing Dawson's Christian for the first time and we're in love... Including having it come up in our weekend highlights on the way home talking... :-)

Oh, thanks so much! Katy also talked about how she used to play that song a long time ago, but hasn't played it for a while, and now wants to start playing it again. In case you missed us saying it there in Circle, that's originally by Duane Elms and gets performed a lot by Jordin Kare. We try to infuse it with a lot of energy.

We particularly loved the driving guitar under the haunting singing... :-)

Tony's really good with the guitar licks... I don't know if you know Jonathan Coulton's "Code Moneky" but I think Tony does it better than Coulton does himself. :) And wait'll the album comes out and you get to hear "Six String Love" tarted up like they want it... :)

Aw shucks. Thanks.

Personally, I think I'm really only "good" at playing Mandelbrot Set, that's one where I do it significantly differently than JC plays it. I try to match the studio recording more than his live performance of it.

What you make of that plain and simple three chord (I believe it was no more than three, but it HAS been a long long time ago *g*) guitar part is just pure magic. Art. Coolartmagic. I loved it. (And it will take me a long long time *laugh* to ever play it as interesting as you do ;-))

[identity profile] tfabris.livejournal.com 2008-01-29 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw thanks. I just play some parts loud and some parts quiet, that's all. :-)

And yes, it's just Em G D, capo to taste. Chord order changes on the choruses. Video from that performance for reference.

*HUGS*

Tsk. These modest guitar players. :)

I always think of it as the way one would play "Ghost Riders in the Sky". (I bet Johnny Cash would've done wonders with Dawson's Christian.)

[livejournal.com profile] chaoswolf wanted to go meet [livejournal.com profile] sooj but instead has earned a rep as the most sought after gofer mom in mainstream/furry fandom....wonder what I had to do with it?

unfuckingbelievable.

OK, so I'm not the only one that ran out of adjectives. Good.

We have witnessed the birth of something great.

We didn't witness it. We did it. We advertised the bejeesus out of it in the back channels, worked our tails off getting all our ducks in a row, and then we went and we sang our hearts out. Were there pain points? Sure there were. But there was more than enough joy to make up for it. And when the pain and grief got too much for some, we all stepped up, and we had Smac to lead us.

[livejournal.com profile] mdlbear and I were talking this morning, and we agreed. It don't get no better than this.

So bummed we couldn't come.

So glad it went well.
